F30 Sport+ and Sport Automatic (2TB) Coding With E-Sys

Sport+ and the Sport Automatic map on an F30 with E-Sys or BimmerCode: the exact lines, the 205 to 2TB change, the paddle fault fix and launch control.

Plenty of F30s left the factory with three driving modes and the standard automatic gearbox map. Sport+ and the Sport Automatic map (option 2TB) are already in the car's software, so switching them on is a coding job with no new parts.

KGB_123_99, who started one of the threads below, calls Sport Automatic the best coding you can do on the car. Shifts get quicker in every mode, Comfort stops hanging on to revs at part throttle, and in manual mode the gearbox holds the gear at the limiter instead of shifting up for you.

Credits Cool

This is collected from two long F30post threads, Sport+ Coding and Sport automatic, 2TB do it!, the second one started by KGB_123_99 in 2015. The coding lines come from shawnsheridan, Timur and KGB_123_99, the paddle fault from hsk1610, and the FEM_BODY fix from GeorgeKLT and Caracal. Thanks to all of them for writing it down.

Before You Start

  • Look for 2TB in your FA first. Some cars, M Sport ones especially, already have it.
  • Sport Automatic is for the 8-speed automatic. Sport+ on its own also works on manual cars.
  • Engine running, or a strong charger on the car.
  • Write down your FDL changes. VO coding a module puts its coding back to factory, and you'll want to redo them afterwards.

Sport+

One line in the ICM does it:

ModuleGroupParameterValue
ICM3000 DatenIcmKod_B_Sportlenkungverbaut

If Sport+ works but doesn't show up in the driving mode menu, Timur's KOMBI lines add it:

ModuleGroupParameterValue
KOMBI300C ECO_FDSFDS_MENUE_TEXT_1 to FDS_MENUE_TEXT_4menue_3
KOMBI300C ECO_FDSFDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_1 to FDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_4menue_3

Expect a stability control or tyre pressure warning straight after coding. Several owners got one and it went away after switching the engine off and on. One F10 owner had a stability error that stayed until the line was coded back, so if yours doesn't clear, undo it.

Sport Automatic: the FA Route

This is the way the factory does it, and it survives a dealer software update.

  1. In E-Sys, go to Expert Mode → Coding, read the FA and save a copy.
  2. Open the saved FA in the FA editor. Delete option 205 (the standard automatic) and add 2TB.
  3. Click Calculate FP and check there are no errors. Save, then write the FA to the car.
  4. Read the FA again, Activate FA and Read SVT.
  5. Right-click EGS (the module itself, not the CAFD under it) and choose Code. Do the same for ICM and KOMBI.

Most owners coded those three modules. GeorgeKLT coded every module to be safe, which works too but takes longer and wipes all your FDL coding.

No Paddles? Change One More Line

With 2TB in the FA, FEM_BODY assumes the steering wheel has paddles. If yours doesn't, the gearbox keeps looking for them and logs fault CF2101, about the shift paddles. hsk1610 only found out when the dealer read the fault memory at a service. Set this line afterwards:

ModuleParameterValue
FEM_BODYPADDLES_VERBAUTnicht_aktiv

Caracal still had CF2101 logged after the change, so read the fault memory once you're done and clear what's left.

Sport Automatic: the FDL Route

If you'd rather leave the FA alone, these lines change the gearbox map directly:

ModuleGroupParameterValue
EGS3000 ApplikationSportschalteraktiv
EGS3000 ApplikationSportschalter_altaktiv

That's all KGB_123_99 coded, on a car that already had Sport+. Timur also set IcmKod_B_S2TBA to verbaut in the ICM. Setting only Sportschalter_alt gives you the gear number (S1, S2 and so on) in manual mode, without the quicker shifts.

FDL coding in E-Sys needs a token. In BimmerCode, owners report Sport Automatic as a simple switch under the transmission control unit, and Sport+ under the ICM and the instrument cluster. A dealer software update resets FDL changes, so you may have to do them again after a service.

Launch Control

On many cars it comes with Sport Automatic. If not, set LC to aktiv in EGS, 3000 Applikation. Timur's advice was that the gearbox needs I-level F020-13-07-501 or newer for it.

To use it, drive until everything is warm (owners say about 10 miles). Pick Sport+, push the lever to the left, stand on the brake and floor the throttle past the kickdown click. The revs settle, a flag appears in the cluster and you have a few seconds to let go of the brake. Wait too long and the car drops back to idle. KGB_123_99 tried it once and called it overrated.

What Owners Noticed

  • Quicker, firmer shifts, most obvious from first to third at full throttle. Shift by hand above 4,000 rpm and you feel a bump on the upshift. That's the easiest way to tell it's working.
  • In Comfort the gearbox no longer holds a low gear at part throttle. One owner found it too jumpy in town and coded it back.
  • Fuel use depends on your right foot, as one owner put it.

FAQ

Do I need paddle shifters?

No. Sport Automatic works with the gear lever. Paddles are a separate retrofit.

Can I go back?

Yes. Put 205 back in place of 2TB and code the same modules, or set the FDL lines back to their old values.

The attached one-page PDF has every line on one sheet. More guides are under Coding, or I can do it remotely.
